EgyptAir now exempt from US #ElectronicsBan

I’ve been following the development on the US electronics ban. As of yesterday, the US Department of Homeland Security lifted than ban on 7 out of the 9 Middle Eastern and North African carriers that were originally subjected to the electronics ban.

The ban prevented passengers from bringing any electronic devices larger than a smartphone on board all US-bound flights from the said carriers.

Below are list of carriers originally affected by the ban:

  • Etihad
  • Emirates
  • Qatar Airways
  • Kuwait Airways
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • EgyptAir
  • Saudia
  • Turkish Airlines
  • Royal Jordanian

I talked about the ban being lifted for 7 out of the 10 carriers above in exchange for a more astringent passenger screening for US-bound flights at their home airports here:

Well since late yesterday,  it looks like we can scratch another off the list. This time it was EgyptAir.

The airlines tweeted the following on their twitter feed:

EgyptAir

This is great news for frequent flyers. Especially those taking advantage of cheap premium fares out of Cairo.

It is expected that the ban on Saudia will also be lifted on July 19th. I’ll post another update as things develop…
